about us

My name is Alexa and I’m the creator of True Crime Trails. This site and its contents have been over a year in the making - after going back and forth about if it would be interesting to others or not, I decided to just put it out there and see how it goes!

The idea for True Crime Trails came from a combination love of travel, true crime, and history. Growing up fascinated with murder and ghost stories in the 90’s, there were not nearly as many resources for information on cases as there are today - mainly just books, news, and occasional movies. I remember being so engrossed when reading Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood or seeing The Amityville Horror movie for the first time. All true crime and [good] ghost stories are part of our history and should be remembered and shared.

My love for travel is a direct result of having been lucky enough to travel extensively with my parents as a kid. From Mexico and Puerto Rico to England, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Austria to Charleston and Washington, D.C. - I got to experience different cultures and local and global histories. No matter where we were, it was always the darker side of the area’s history that interested me the most. With the recent influx of podcasts and documentaries, we now have a wealth of information on true crime accessible at any moment. But one thing missing for me was being easily able to find and visit the sites related to the cases I learned about. My hope is that True Crime Trails  fills that void.
