America’s first known serial killer built a “hotel” designed for murder during the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair (aka World’s Columbian Exposition). Holmes was executed by hanging in 1896 after being convicted of murder in Philadelphia. The Castle building was torn down in the 1930’s and is now the site of a USPS office, which is believed to cover the basement remains..
